Our founder and head professional trainer is Julie Ott, dog columnist for the Barrie Advance Newspaper, Professional member of the CAPPDT (Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers), Canadian Kennel Club member, Certified Veterinarian Assistant, and a former Animal Control Officer and Animal Cruelty Investigator for the SPCA.
Julie has investigated allegations of cruelty and neglect; provided emergency assistance to sick or injured domestic animals and wildlife; and enforced animal-related municipal, provincial and criminal code laws for several OSPCA branches and affiliates. Some of her extensive hands-on experience includes: Investigating and analyzing dog bites to determine the likelihood of repeat behaviour and level of risk to the surrounding community, assisting the OPP and municipal police services with the secure removal and containment of dogs from crime scenes and populated areas, safely apprehending stray dogs running at large, and providing expert witness testimony regarding canine behaviour within the Canadian court system.
In addition to running Canine Foundations full time, she serves on the board of directors for Last Chance K9 Rescue as the Behaviour Coordinator and Chief Rehabilitator. With over 9 years of rehabilitation experience, Julie also acts as an advisor on difficult rehabilitation cases for several local dog rescues, such as Southern Ontario Animal Rescue, Precious Paws Rescue, Nickquenum Dog Rescue, and Furry Friends.
Julie firmly believes in continuing education and actively attends canine behaviour and training seminars, as well as staying current on recent publications and research information available on related topics.
